ServerMonitor (servermonitor.dev) watches any website around the clock and alerts you when something goes wrong: downtime, an SSL certificate or domain about to expire, or signs that the site has been hacked. It's built for freelancers, agencies and site owners, works with any website, and adds extra security checks for WordPress. There's nothing to install: checks run from our servers. Pricing is flat, with no per-site surprises, and the free plan covers 3 sites with no credit card.

The problem: you're often the last to know

Websites fail in ways that are easy to miss. A server goes down on a Saturday night. An SSL certificate expires and visitors get a browser security warning. A domain registration lapses and takes the site, and your email, with it.

Hacks are worse, because a hacked site usually stays online. It keeps working while it quietly fills up with spam pages that only search engines see, hides links in your pages, or loads a script nobody added. Most owners only find out when a client calls, or when Google starts showing "This site may be hacked" next to their name in search results. By then, the damage to traffic and reputation is already done.

ServerMonitor is designed so that you hear about these problems first.

What ServerMonitor does

Uptime monitoring

ServerMonitor checks your sites as often as every minute and alerts you when they stop responding properly:

  • HTTP(S) checks with the expected status code, an optional keyword that must (or must not) appear, redirect rules and a response-time limit
  • Ping, TCP port and DNS checks
  • Confirmed failures: a failure is checked again before you're alerted, and flapping sites are grouped, so an alert means a real problem
  • Response-time history for every site, kept for up to a year

SSL certificate and domain expiry warnings

ServerMonitor reads your SSL certificate, checks the chain and the hostname, and warns you before it expires, and again when it renews. For domains, it tracks the registrar, the expiry date and the registry status, and warns you weeks ahead.

Hack detection

This is what sets ServerMonitor apart from a basic uptime checker. Security scans look for the common signs of a compromised site:

  • Listings on known malware and phishing lists, checking your site, the final address after redirects, and sampled pages
  • Injected scripts, hidden links and spam keywords
  • The Japanese keyword hack, and cloaking, where search engines see something different from visitors
  • For WordPress sites: core, theme and plugin versions, known vulnerable plugins, and risky exposed files such as debug logs

Alerts where you'll see them

Alerts go out by email and Telegram on every plan. Paid plans add Slack and webhooks, and webhooks are signed so you can safely connect your own tools. Quiet hours let you choose when not to be disturbed while critical problems still get through, and throttling summarises a burst of alerts so one outage never floods your phone.

Incidents, maintenance and teams

  • Every incident has a timeline: when it started, when it was confirmed, who was notified and when it ended. Acknowledge it so your team knows someone is on it.
  • Maintenance windows let you plan downtime: incidents are recorded but nobody is paged, and planned downtime can be left out of your uptime figure.
  • Invite colleagues as owners, admins or viewers.

Nothing to install, set up in minutes

You don't need any software, plugin or agent on your server or your site: all checks run from our servers. Enter your site's address and ServerMonitor creates the right checks for you: uptime, SSL, domain, blocklists and content integrity, plus WordPress checks when it detects WordPress. Then choose where alerts go, and every site appears on one dashboard with uptime, response time, and the days left on its certificate and domain.

Who it's for

  • Freelancers and small businesses who look after a handful of sites and want to catch problems before their clients do
  • Agencies and anyone who looks after many sites and needs one dashboard for all of them
  • Site owners who want to know their site is online, renewed and clean, without becoming a server administrator

It works with any website, whatever it's built with, and adds extra security checks when it detects WordPress.

Plans and pricing

Pricing is simple and flat: one price per plan, with no per-site surprises. Prices are in US dollars, shown before any applicable taxes, and paying yearly gets you two months free.

Free

For a few personal or small sites. It covers 3 sites, needs no credit card, and stays free: it's not a trial that ends.

Pro

For freelancers and small businesses: 10 sites, checks every minute, daily security scans, Slack and webhook alerts, a full year of history and 3 team members, for $5 a month.

Ultimate

For agencies and people who look after many sites: 50 sites, security scans every 6 hours and 25 team members, for $19 a month.

You can upgrade, switch between monthly and yearly, or cancel whenever you like, and a cancelled plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for. If you have more sites than your plan allows, nothing is deleted: your oldest sites stay active and the extra ones are paused until you upgrade or remove sites. Full details are on the ServerMonitor pricing page.

Try it without an account

Want to check a site right now? ServerMonitor has three free tools you can use on any website, no account needed: Is my website hacked?, an SSL certificate checker and a domain expiry checker.

Already hacked?

Monitoring tells you something is wrong; it doesn't remove the malware. If ServerMonitor flags a problem, or you already suspect your WordPress site has been compromised, I can clean it up, restore it and lock it down. See my hacked WordPress site fix service.

Who's behind it
